Agnes J. Palmer Artemel

Agnes J. P. Artemel is President of Artemel & Associates Inc.  Her specialties are revitalization of aging commercial corridors, placemaking, transit-oriented mixed-use development, market analysis, economic development, tourism, and public outreach.  She has participated in or led hundreds of studies in the Mid-Atlantic states and managed several non-profit economic development organizations.  She is a past director of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership and is a past Alexandria City Council appointee to the Alexandria Industrial Development Authority.  She has served on Small Area Plan Advisory Groups, including the Eisenhower West SAP and the Eisenhower West/Landmark Van Dorn Implementation work groups.  She served two terms on the Alexandria Board of Zoning Appeals.  She is a member of the Urban Land Institute and NAIOP, and actively participates in both, organizing conference panels and education sessions.   She is also engaged in community service, advising on a local farmers market and serving on the Board of her civic association.  She has received numerous awards from past clients.  Ms. Artemel holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from The George Washington University.

Engin Artemel, AICP

Engin Artemel served as corporate visionary to Artemel & Associates.  He set the firm on the path of excellence in community-serving planning and development.  An architect, civil engineer, and planner whose early career centered on the public sector, including several years as the Director of Planning and Community Development for the City of Alexandria, Virginia, he is noted for his work on the revitalization of Alexandria’s waterfront and the King Street retail corridor.   His activity in the private sector included negotiation and consensus building for proposed real estate development projects, sustainable development, and coordinating new business opportunities for US and overseas firms to work together on municipal infrastructure projects.  He was declared a Living Legend of Alexandria in 2008.
